Going Solar in NYC
Solar Neighbors |  Purchasing & Incentives |  Installers |  Resources

There has never been a better time to turn your building into a non-polluting, sun-fueled power plant - just check out some of your neighbors who have done it!

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technology is:

  • Reliable and clean
  • Long-lasting and low maintenance
  • Easily Installed by qualified local installers
  • A stable long-term investment
  • Good for the environment
  • Safe, Secure, and Independent
By purchasing a solar system you will:
  • Reduce pollution
  • Stabilize electricity costs
  • Lessen dependence on fossil fuels
  • Increase self-reliance
  • Increase local jobs & economic development
  • Make a long-term commitment to the planet’s future
Your electricity bills can be reduced by up to 75% or more. When you have a system installed on your roof, an electrician hooks it into the electricity grid. At times that your system is generating more power than you're using, the power goes out of your building, turning your electrical meter backwards. At times when you are using more power than your system is generating, your meter spins forward only for the extra amount of power you need. At the end of each month, you pay the utility only for the net difference between the amount of energy you used and the amount you generated. This is called net metering.

The start-up cost may seem high, but it is offset by the savings in electricity you no longer have to purchase. The systems will generally pay for itself in the first fifteen years at today's electricity prices - if rates increase, the payback time is faster. And after that it's all savings. And solar PV modules typically carry 25-year warranties, so you can expect long-term return on your investment. In addition, low-interest, below market rate financing is available to spread the cost of the modules out over time.
